25 Ideas to Spark CS in Under 60 Minutes

This is a fast-paced workshop to introduce educators to a wide range of foundational CS concepts and activities. The purpose is to equip elementary educators with creative tools and strategies as well as to inspire confidence in both teachers and students to explore CS, robotics and logic puzzles. Takeaways: Handouts of sample activities with lesson plans, coding contest checklist, online gamification samples, and the list of 25 strategies and ideas with a few bonus extras. Links to additional classroom resources will also be shared.

CS and/or Cybersecurity Content Knowledge Level Required: Everyone. No prior knowledge required.

AI and Machine Learning impact our entire world, changing how we live and how we work. That's why it’s critical for all of us to understand this increasingly important technology, including not just how it’s designed and applied, but also its societal and ethical implications.

In this session we’ll explore the free Code.org resources available for you to introduce these concepts in your classroom, from a 1-2 hour activity for elementary students to a 5 week, fully developed course with online resources, student materials, project outlines, rubrics, and teacher materials (including presentation files and videos). Resources will provide success for any teacher (regardless of prior experience with computer science or AI/Machine Learning).
