Participants will examine how student-centered programming has evolved, including how it has addressed challenges and what insights were gained during periods of significant growth. The session invites participants to reassess traditional computer science education approaches and consider how established ideologies affect participation. Ultimately, participants will be encouraged to broaden their perspectives on enhancing innovation in education.

This session introduces a human-centered approach to teaching generative artificial intelligence (GAI) through ethics-first curricula, aligned with UNESCO’s AI Competency Frameworks for School Students & Teachers. Designed to foster critical thinking and inclusive engagement, this project-based curriculum emphasizes responsible, inclusive access to and development of GAI.
Participants gain hands-on experience with App Inventor — a free, open-source mobile app creation platform developed at MIT that now features GAI components — including sample curricular units focused on fostering a 'human-centered mindset.'.
